How do I merge items?

Drag one item onto an identical item — they combine into the next tier. Merging is always free; it never costs energy. Only tapping a generator costs energy. Some special combinations exist too: drag a Theme Topper onto a top-tier item to create a themed showpiece (we call this Finishing).
