Why won't the game let me sell my Topper / Key / generator?

Items your story or events depend on can't be sold — generators, Toppers, Keys, Kit tools, and story-granted pieces. That's protection, not a bug: none of these can be re-bought, so the game refuses to let them be destroyed. Items inside a bubble can't be sold either — claim the bubble first.
